Outdoor Christmas Decorating Ideas
for Your Front Porch and More
When thinking about your outdoor Christmas decorating ideas, begin with your front porch or front door.Use it as the focal point for your decorations to create a special holiday theme - for example Santa's workshop, a winter wonderland, or the Nativity.
Outdoor Christmas decorations range from very simple to full-out elaborate. Dave and I prefer simple but we also appreciate the elaborate lights and decorations in our town.
Garland and Red Bows
A simple outdoor Christmas decorating idea - garland, white lights and red bows. Amazingly beautiful on this snowy front porch.
Decorating a Screened Porch for Christmas
Our friend, Nancy Moore, from The Porch Company in Nashville, has this beautiful screened porch. Look how she decorated it. So cozy and magical!

Nancy's daughter, Rachael, writes on their blog: "There are several rooms you'd think of relaxing in at home during the Christmas holidays - but one room you may have overlooked as being an important part of the holiday celebration is the porch." How very true that is.An Old-Fashioned Country Christmas on the Porch

Simplicity! A wooden rocking chair, small Christmas tree and sled with a bright red bow makes this a cozy porch for Christmas.Yvonne's Christmas Cabin is Magical!
If I were to live in a log cabin, I know I would truly love having a porch like Yvonne has. This year she decorated simply with greenery, snowflakes, pine cones and an old-fashioned cart that and it's just wonderful.Yvonne explained about the red cart: "We bought it out of a barn in west Tennessee about 24 yrs ago... It's been in our yard ... and porch.. serving all kind of purposes. Once used it for a wedding for party favors of Apples and pie recipes!"
Such an iconic log cabin porch

A friend of Yvonne's made this sign for her. It's a favorite of Yvonne's. We think it's pretty awesome, too.
Want to see more of Yvonne's porch? We think you will love how she has it decorated for autumn, too.

Even if you don't live in the snow, isn't this a pretty picture of a snowy porch all decorated for Christmas? We like how the touch of bright red on the wreaths and bells really "pops" against the snowy white.

Create a Natural Garland on Your Porch
- A fun family project is to create a natural garland across your porch railings.
- Gather lots of pine cones. Use flocking (spray snow) to lightly dust the cones.
- Use spray glue to lightly cover the cones and then add glitter (silver, red, and green).
- Use yarn, ribbon, or string to tie the cones together.
- Add bows or ornaments and drape across your porch railings.

Sometimes all you need is crisp white snow on the ground, some evergreen garland and bright red bows to have a lovely country Christmas porch. I spy some red rockers, a Christmas tree and some beautiful packages on Patricia's porch, too.I can just imagine the joy of stopping by Patricia's porch at holiday time!
Decorating with Red
Outdoor Christmas decorating ideas always include greenery and red bows.

Teresa Soule shares a picture of her gorgeous red front door - all ready for the holidays. I think the red wreath against the red door is so very pretty - and trimmed with greenery and a vintage sled.
Gotta love Teresa's English Setter, Thunder, sitting proudly on her front porch.
Doesn't an inviting front door say so much for the home? It makes an amazing impression. We appreciate Teresa for sharing this picture with us.

Beautiful Simplicity
The detailing on this Greek-Gothic Victorian porch and home make this one of our favorite porch pictures and we are grateful to KarasCorner for allowing us to share it on our site.
This Victorian home was built circa 1860 and the current owner decorates it for Christmas every year.
Decorated columns and windows adorned with holiday wreaths are all that is needed to create a most appealing Christmas porch! Often times the best outdoor Christmas decorating ideas are the simple ones.
Pure Enchantment
If you're like the two of us, you'd enjoy passing by this charming home more than once. Is this home enchanting or what? Enjoy our sections on Christmas light ideas to put the sparkle in your holiday season.
I'm imagining a grand piano inside, a roaring fireplace, cookies in the oven and spiced cider on the stove. It's certainly lovely and inviting!
An Easy Outdoor Christmas Decorating Idea - A Decorated Front Door
A decorated front door is very captivating. You can use foil wrapping paper to cover it and tie it with an over sized large bow.Metallic colors work best like gold, silver, or red and green. Another festive idea is to frame your door in lighted garland and embellish with colorful boxes like the photo shown here.
Add a beautiful wreath in complementary colors.
A Tree on Your Porch

LeeLee81 captures the essence of Christmas. Note the stained glass window off the porch and lighted garland on the railings. The blue lighted Christmas tree and nativity scene tie the spirit of the holiday together.
Tips for a Tree on Your Front Porch
- Place a beautifully decorated tree on your porch (or make the tomato cage tree shown in the video above).
- Secure the tree to your porch so it does not fall.
- String white lights on it and use spray snow on the tips of the branches.
- Finish it off with large red bows.
- For a sparkling effect use blinking lights.
- Wrap boxes in colorful foil paper and place underneath.
- To protect the wrapping paper from the weather spray the wrapped boxes with lacquer.
Decorate Your Porch with Lights

Create scenes on your porch - Santa at the North Pole, a Nativity scene or Frosty the Snowman. No matter what, enjoy the way you decorate.
